our badly made method of binding books allows all of our notebooks and journals to lay flat when in use, allowing you to comfortably use the notebooks - on both sides of the page.
using recycled paper tape our binding methods are not traditional but despite the name, the only thing you can't make in our workshop is a notebook that's literally badly made.
badly made books ...are rubbish
our favourite ingredient is waste so we choose to use papers made from recycled and post-consumer waste materials.
paper fibres can be found in many industrial by-products and other waste products including coffee cups. by using recycled materials we hope to reduce the stress already placed on global forestry.
we choose to print our notepaper using a risograph duplicator; a method of printing that uses inks made from rice production by-products
handmade with machines
we started making books (badly, at first) with a good idea and little know-how. through a process of trial and error we refined our design eventually becoming producers of basic tools for writers, doodlers, list makers, scribblers and anyone who wants to collect their thoughts & ideas
our workshop combines new and old techniques, mixing hand and machine process to offer craft standards at an industrial pace - always with a focus on getting the most out of good materials
printing with restraint
paper is a fully recyclable material however the infrastructure required to print is unavoidably plastic-based and wasteful.
we aim to use as little ink as possible. we design & choose imagery under the principle, that today more than ever, less is more.
we do all of our printing, binding and distribution from our city centre workshop at 1 friar st.

what we do & why we do it
we might speak a little bit differently than most businesses and that's because our approach to business is a little bit different.
over-promising and under-delivering seems to have become a industry standard where almost everything is billed as green, sustainable, authentic and 100% amazing (#livingthedream) even though its evident that things are not quite as rosy when we look beneath the surface
we hope that our approach to what we say compliments the approach to what we do; we aim to under-promise and over-deliver.
the most sustainable thing you can do is not to make, not to sell and certainly not to mislead people. by embracing a little bit of self-deprecation and we hope to prompt critical thinking in our customers, who we hope will judge us on what we do and not on what we say.
